The town of Carrizozo is rich in history. From its beginnings as an important railroad town in the late 1800's, to its modern-day status as the county seat, Carrizozo was and continues to be a central hub of commerce and trade. The community thrived and prospered on homesteaders and gold miners settling here to stake their claim on the bounty the area had to offer. As tech nology grew and transportation became readily available the town began to decline in population and commerce. Today, Carrizozo enjoys a nostalgic atmosphere that is inviting to visitors. The endearing southwestern country lifestyle has made the town a favorite for filming industries and new developers wishing to capture a moment in time. Along with the warm welcome that draws visitors, there are many attractions in the Carrizozo area that people come to see. Some include the Valley for Fires lava flow, Three Rivers Petrog lyph site, along with the ghost town of the once gold mining neighbor, White Oaks and the natural attractions of the Lincoln National Forest and wilderness areas. Come. Explore, Experience, Carrizozo.
